APH reports 2 additional COVID-related deaths discovered during data cleanup in Tuesday update

One death occurred in 2021 and the other in 2022; currently 409 active cases, 20 hospitalizations in the region

Algoma Public Health reported two additional COVID-related deaths found during a data cleanup in Tuesday's update - one that occurred in 2021 and the other in 2022.

This brings the total number of deaths related to the virus to 46 - 25 of which occurred in 2022.

The latest numbers from APH also show an increase in the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 as well as an increase in the number of active cases in the region. 

The number of hospitalizations is currently 20, up by six from Monday's update, and the number of patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons also increased from six to seven - an increase of one from the previous update.

APH is reporting that there are currently four ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19, and the number of patients admitted to the ICU for COVID-19 related reasons increased from one to two. 

The number of active cases in the Algoma region is 409, which is up by five from Monday's update. There is also one additional active case in a non-Algoma resident who is temporarily in the region.

There are currently 48 new confirmed COVID cases in the region, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 6,942 - 4,738 of which have been confirmed in 2022.

The number of resolved cases in Monday's report stands at 6,533, which is up by 43 from Friday.

The number of completed tests in Algoma is 250,941, which is up by 435.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
