APH reports 19 new COVID cases in Algoma

The Algoma region currently has 371 active cases and 11 hospitalizations

Algoma Public Health is reporting 19 new COVID-19 cases in the region, 18 in the Sault Ste. Marie area and one in the Elliot Lake area.

The new cases bring the number of total COVID cases in Algoma since the start of the pandemic to 1,208 and the number of active cases in the region sits at 371 as of 6:15 p.m. Thursday.

There are currently 11 hospitalizations, up two from Wednesday's report.

Of the new cases, seven were infected through close contact with a known confirmed case, seven others are under the exposure category of unknown, meaning the individual did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case.

The five other new cases remain under investigation to determine how they were infected.
