Algoma Public Health has reported 31 new cases of COVID-19 today, however, that total is underestimated due to limitations in who can get tested.
Six of those cases are tied to close contact with a known case of COVID-19, three of those are outbreak related.
Five cases are under investigation and 17 are from an unknown source of infection.
There are currently 11 people with COVID-19 in hospital, which means there has been no change since the last report.
In the past two weeks there were 240 cases of COVID-19 reported in Algoma.
Of these, 58.7% were in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals, and 41.3% were in fully vaccinated individuals.
463 tests were run, bringing the positive percentage to seven per cent of those able to access testing.
There are currently 702 active cases in the Algoma Public Health region, which is down by 10 cases from APH's last report.
Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
