Algoma Public Health is reporting one new COVID-19 related death in the Algoma region, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 28.

Per APH policy, additional details on the death were not released.

The hospitalization count in Algoma remains at 21, unchanged from Wednesday's report.

After a slight uptick in active cases on Wednesday, APH is reporting an additional 62 active cases in the region in Thursday's reporting. There are currently 617 active cases and two active cases that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region.

The number of confirmed cases in the region rose by 66 to 4,255 and the number of resolved cases is up by four to 3,638.

An additional 410 tests were completed since Wednesday's report.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
