In a letter issued by Algoma Public Health to parents and staff on Wednesday, a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Boreal French Immersion Public School locally.

"As per provincial Ministry of Education guidance, an outbreak is declared in a school once it has been determined that within a 14-day period, two individuals tested positive for COVID-19," the letter said.

It goes on to say that the outbreak is also declared when "at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection in the school setting; and there are characteristics that link the two cases (e.g., a child or staff could have become infected with COVID-19 at the school, either from each other or a common source."

The letter also notes that staff from APH are working with the school to review, confirm, and strengthen public health measures already in place.

APH says that all high-risk close contacts have been identified, contacted, and given instructions on testing and self-isolation requirements.

Anyone who has not been contacted directly by APH does not need to have their child tested unless they show symptoms related to COVID.
