Anybody remember Brian Marsden from the blast furnace?

He had $20 in his pocket when he arrived at Algoma Steel, fresh off the boat from Wales, in 1952.

He went on to become the chairman and chief executive officer of Acme Steel Co. in Riverdale, Illinois.

Funeral services were held this past week in Palos Hills, Illinois for Brian W.H. Marsden, a former ASI blast-furnace engineer who died of cancer-related causes on July 1.

Marsden moved to the Chicago area from the Sault in 1977 and became vice president of iron and steel operations for Interlake Inc.

"I always remember him as someone who worked very, very hard," his son Huw Marsden, told the Chicago Tribune this week.

"He never forgot where he came from .... He was very driven in terms of his career, but at the same time he was a great dad."
