Algoma Thunderbirds to help shoot for a cure to breast cancer

Volunteers to cut hair, take pie to the face during January 19 event

The Algoma Thunderbirds are shooting hoops for a cure this month as part of USports and the Canadian Cancer Society's Shoot for the Cure initiative.

This event, taking place Jan. 19 against the UOttawa Geegees, is to raise money and awareness for breast cancer, according to a news release issued today by Algoma University.

Donations are being accepted through the team's page here. All proceeds from the game will be donated.

For more information, see the full release below.

Every year, USports, in collaboration with the Canadian Cancer Society, hold their Shoot for the Cure initiative. Universities across Canada host a basketball game fundraiser to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

This year, the Algoma University Thunderbirds will host the UOttawa GeeGees on Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. for the special event. Like previous years, we have some amazing volunteers who will be cutting their hair with the help of Sault College Hairstyling. We will also have some familiar faces getting pied in the face for some added fun!

Donations are being accepted through the Algoma Thunderbirds team page. All the proceeds from the game will be donated to the fundraiser.

In collaboration with our Alumni & Advancement team, we have now released the new design for the women’s pink jerseys!

With a new logo for our warm-up shirts, we are taking our previously designed t-shirts and giving them away to the first 40 people to come to the women’s game!
