Algoma Steel and Tenaris are donating $10,000 to Superior Adult Learning as a way to help sustain adult learning and improve community literacy.
The volunteer-led organization received $5,000 from each company with the intent to continue providing essential educational services for adults to increase independence and pursue employment.
“The investments from Tenaris and Algoma Steel allow us to continue helping adults in our community gain the literacy skills needed to succeed in their personal and professional lives,” said Thomas Gravelines, president, Board of Directors at Superior Adult Learning.
“Literacy is the foundation of opportunity, and these funds will make a meaningful impact on employment in our community," Gravelines added.
Superior Adult Learning has worked with people in Sault Ste. Marie since 1987 to build literacy and basic skills needed to gain confidence and secure employment.
The non-profit is led by a volunteer board of directors, a small team of employees, and volunteer tutors, with services being free for all Ontario residents over 19 years old.
“At Tenaris, we are committed to growing alongside our communities. Not only is Superior Adult Learning supporting community residents, but they’ve also supported newcomers’ family members or partners of our Tenaris employees,” said Angela Cruickshank, Human Resources senior director at Tenaris. “This contribution allows us to make a tangible impact and invest in the future of the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie.”
Tenaris is a manufacturer and supplier of pipe products as well as other services for the world's energy industry and industrial applications. They employ around 29,000 people worldwide.
Algoma Steel Group Inc. is a producer of hot and cold rolled steel products and is based in Sault Ste. Marie.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to corporate social responsibility and the value Algoma Steel places on building a strong, resilient community in Sault Ste. Marie. We are proud to stand behind such an impactful initiative," said Laura Devoni, director of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs at Algoma Steel.
