Algoma Public Health has reported one death and 62 new cases of COVID-19 today, though due to limits on who can be tested, those numbers may be underestimated.

This latest death brings the total number of deaths in the region since the beginning of the pandemic to 30.

The report also shows that hospitalizations are down by three, with 11 people in hospital with COVID-19.

The active case count is down by three as well, sitting at 590 currently in the region.

APH has run 359 tests since the last report with a positivity rate of 17.3 per cent.

Of the population that is eligible, 84.3 per cent have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
