Algoma Public Health reports no new hospitalizations and 62 COVID-19 cases confirmed

Algoma Public Health has reported no new hospitalizations, and 62 new cases of COVID-19 since their last report, though the number of cases my be underestimated due to limits on who can be tested.

There have been 71 cases resolved, including one hospitalization, bringing the number of active cases to 547, and the number of hospitalizations with COVID-19 to 17.

APH has completed 454 tests since their last report, with a positivity rate of 13.7 per cent.

Since Oct. 1, 2021, 72.9% of hospitalizations in Algoma were in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals, and 27.1% were in fully vaccinated individuals. 

Of those eligible for vaccination, 83.5 per cent have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 4,134 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
