Algoma Public Health has reported five new hospitalizations with COVID-19 and 40 new confirmed cases in the region, though that number may be underestimated due to limits on who can be tested.

APH reports 17 patients with COVID-19 currently hospitalized and 592 active cases of COVID-19 in the region.

Since the last report, 38 cases have been resolved.

APH has conducted 394 tests since the last report, with a 10.1 per cent positivity rate.

Of the individuals eligible for vaccination, 84 per cent have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in the APH.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
