Algoma Public Health is reporting 17 new COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region, all in the Sault Ste. Marie area.
There are currently 255 active cases and 16 hospitalizations as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Among the new cases, five are under investigation and their current isolation status is also under investigation.
Of the remaining cases, seven were exposed through close contact with a known confirmed case and five are under the exposure category of unknown, which means they did not have recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case.
All 12 individuals are currently self-isolating.
