As potential tariffs threaten to divide the U.S. and Canada, a local restaurant has captured the looming trade war on its new border wall pizza.
With tiny Canadian and American flags, and different toppings on either side, the new Gino’s Fired Up Kitchen pizza is divided down the middle by a ‘border wall’ made up of mozzarella sticks.
Released earlier this month, co-owner Eric McLean said the new pie has been a hit with locals after his business partner dreamed up the idea.
“With all the buzz about the … 25 per cent tariff that was announced and basically took over the media headlines, my partner Craig came up with the idea,” McLean said.
He said the new pizza is meant to put a lighthearted spin on the current situation, and confirmed there is not, as of yet, a 25 per cent tariff on the American side of the pizza.
Customers have been joining in on the fun, as well, he said.
“That's kind of the fun that we wanted to have with it . . and through the social media post we had some fun with it,” he said.
“I'm having a good time reading through most of the comments.”
