(8 photos) Things go better for Boomer

When we last left Boomer, the famous Parks Canada beaver, he wasn't exactly having a tail-slapping time at the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site.

He was down there at 10 a.m. yesterday, waiting for the official 2004 opening of the recreational lock.

He had cake and hot chocolate and flags and stuff.

He even had plaques and ball caps to present to the first tour-boat captain and the first recreational boat to lock through.

But nobody came.

Well, a small crowd of spectators came.

But there were no boats.

And Boomer could do nothing but anxiously scan the horizon with help from Jennifer Huntley (shown above).

Well, we're please to report that by early afternoon, Boomer's luck changed.

Captain Jack Cork showed up with the Nokomis and Boomer's afternoon turned out to be more fun than eating sawdust.

The nice people at Parks Canada have sent us some nice pictures of Boomer's big day, and you can look at them by clicking on the photo gallery below.
