51 new COVID cases reported by APH, hospitalizations up by one

Algoma Public Health is reporting one new hospitalization and 51 new COVID-19 cases in its latest update.

There are currently 14 hospitalizations in the region and 618 active cases in the region as of Sunday afternoon.

The active case count is up by 14 from Saturday's report. There is also one additional active case in the region that is a non-Algoma resident temporarily in the region.

The resolved case count in Algoma stands at 4,138, up by 37 from Saturday.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
