39 new COVID cases reported by Algoma Public Health, two low-risk exposure sites in Sault Ste. Marie

Algoma Public Health is reporting a low-risk exposure sites in Sault Ste. Marie and 39 new COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region.

The exposure sites include the Tim Hortons on John St. in the Sault on Nov. 30 between 9 a.m. and 9:30 as well as 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The second site is Montana's BBQ and Bar on Foster Dr. on Nov. 27 between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Anyone who was at either site on those dates and times is asked to self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID. If symptoms develop, you should immediately seek testing and self-isolate.

The new cases, which includes 37 in the Sault area as well as one each in the Elliot Lake and central and east Algoma areas, bring the number of total cases in Algoma since the start of the pandemic to 1,189.

There are currently 361 active cases in the region as of 6:45 p.m. Wednesday and nine hospitalizations.

Of the new cases:

  • 27 are close contacts of confirmed cases
  • 8 have an unknown source of infection
  • 1 acquired infection after international travel
  • 3 are still being investigated to determine their source of infection
