VIDEO: Best pizza in the Sault? Here's who won the last contest nine years ago

As the city prepares to host its first annual 'Pizza Fest' later this month, we look back at the results of a similar pie-off in the summer of 2015 called 'Pizza Palooza'

As SooToday reported earlier this week, the city is organizing its first-ever "Pizza Fest" — a chance for Saultites to decide, once and for all, who serves the best pie in town.

The Aug. 24 event, to be held at the Downtown Plaza, will allow pizza makers from across the Sault to show off their stuff in two separate categories: best cheese and pepperoni, and best specialty pizza.

Sample-sized slices will be available from each competitor for $1 each, and Pizza Fest attendees will be able to cast votes for their favourites.

Although the city is promoting the event as an inaugural showcase, there was actually a similar pie-off in the summer of 2015 called "Pizza Paloooza." Featuring nearly a dozen vendors, the event was a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity.

Who won? Check out the video above and the full list below.

Best Creative Topping: Little Caesars

Best Decorative Booth: Metro Churchill Plaza & Croatian Hall
