Young stars rise up at the Sault Ste. Marie Music Festival (9 photos)

The event wrapped up its 80th year Sunday night

After three weeks of musical performances - mostly classical, with some musical theatre and jazz – the Sault Ste. Marie Music Festival culminated with two final performance competitions at St. Luke’s Cathedral Sunday evening.

This year the festival celebrated 80 years of showcasing some of the amazing talent rising up in the area.

The festival is coordinated by the Algoma Conservatory of Music and brings young talent from both sides of the St. Marys River to compete.

On Sunday they held the 14 and under Rising Star Competition and the 21 and under, festival top tier, Shield Competion.

The Shield Competition was won by both vocalist Jackson Allen and flutist Cathryn Franklin.

The Rising Star Competition was won by pianist Deanna St. Germain.

Here are some sound clips of Sunday's performances.
