Fall fairs happening in Iron Bridge and on St. Joseph Island; District Labour Council hosts a Labour Day celebration

FRIDAY, SEPT. 2

  • Batchewana First Nation will host a traditional pow wow at the Rankin Pow Wow Grounds. The day's events include water teachings at 4 p.m., a feast at 6 p.m., and a round dance set to begin at 7 p.m. Camping is available, and there will be a variety of craft and food vendors on-site. The host drum is Charging Horse, co-host drum is Bear Creek and the emcee will be Joel Syrette.
  • Tym Morrison performs at Reggie’s Tavern (458 Queen St. E.) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 3

  • The Town of Iron Bridge is set to host its 136th annual Fall Fair at the Iron Bridge Recreation Centre. Doors open at 10 a.m. The event will feature a variety of vendors, agricultural displays, a silent auction, food and refreshments, and a parade.
  • Wilde Strawberries Studio (1030 Sailors Encampment Drive, St. Joseph Island) will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Jocelyn Township hosts its Harvest Festival and Children’s Fall Fair at the Mountainview Centennial Grounds on St. Joseph Island (corner of Highway 548 and P-Line) from noon until 5 p.m. The event includes an antique tractor parade, petting zoo and miniature horses, wagon rides, food and refreshments, and a variety of vendors and activities.

  • Handsome Sandwich plays the Whisky Barrel, 113 Gore St., from 9 p.m. until midnight.
  • Old Stonehouse performs at Reggie’s Tavern (458 Queen St. E.) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 4

  • Wilde Strawberries Studio (1030 Sailors Encampment Drive, St. Joseph Island) will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Algoma Makers Market will host a fall market under the Rink at The Machine Shop from 1 to 7 p.m.
  • Batchewana First Nation will host a traditional pow wow at the Rankin Pow Wow Grounds. The day's events include the grand entry at 1 p.m. and dancing throughout the day. Camping is available, and there will be a variety of craft and food vendors on-site. The host drum is Charging Horse, co-host drum is Bear Creek and the emcee will be Joel Syrette.

MONDAY, SEPT. 5

  • The Sault Ste. Marie District Labour Council will host a Labour Day celebration starting with a solidarity parade on Queen Street East from Brock Street to Elgin Street at 11:30 a.m. This will be followed by a family event at the Bondar Pavilion from noon to 3 p.m. featuring food and refreshments, live music, kids activities, and a motorcycle show and shine.
  • Batchewana First Nation will host a traditional pow wow at the Rankin Pow Wow Grounds. The day's events include a community social at 1 p.m.. The host drum is Charging Horse, co-host drum is Bear Creek and the emcee will be Joel Syrette.
  • The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA will host a Doggy Dip from 1-2 p.m. for small dogs, and 2-3 p.m. for large dogs. Admission is a $10 donation to the Strong Communities Campaign. All dogs must be fully vaccinated to participate.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 6

  • The Twin City Chess Club hosts a drop-in chess night at the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library - North Branch (232 Northern Ave.) from 4 to 7:30 p.m. All ages and abilities are welcome.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 7

  • SooBlaster (345 Queen St. E.) will host a Ladies Night with the Men of Klub Kave. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance, or $40 at the door.
