It’s never a bad idea to mix some physical activity into your weekly routine. Every Wednesday, you can join Amanda Lambert – a registered health and exercise practitioner and CEO of Strong Minds – for a Walk n’ Talk from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The walks are mainly geared towards local youth, but anyone is welcome to join.
Lambert, who has a passion for helping those who struggle with mental health, says that implementing physical activity can really help.
“There are so many things that simply walking can do for our mental health and overall health. It’s free to do and the benefits are so significant,” she said.
Lambert says that walking can help reduce stress, reduce anxiety and depression, improve sleep quality and even improve your mood.
“I was planning some programming for the upcoming months and thought this would be a good idea because being outside fits with COVID-19 regulations,” she said of how the idea came up.
Lambert partnered up with Big Lake Cabin (765 Queen St. E.) where participants meet up to enjoy a balanced meal before the walk, and free hot chocolate to warm up afterwards.
“I reached out to Big Lake Cabin and they loved the idea. We think it's important to offer more physical activity to our community,” Lambert said.
“When youths experience mental health issues, their social life may decrease, so this initiative helps them socialize and feel supported in a welcoming environment,” she said.
You can sign up to join the weekly Walk n’ Talks online.
