FRINGE NORTH INTERNATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL

The Comedics are a group of doctors and associates specializing in keeping their audience in stitches, and follow the motto that “laughter is the best medicine”. In the past 20 years, the Comedics donated time and talent has raised over two million dollars for local charitable groups.
The performance – Comedics and ‘Friends’ for Fringe on June 2 - will raise funds for Fringe North International Theatre Festival (Fringe North), a not-for-profit 10-day theatre festival located in Sault Ste. Marie, with the inaugural season planned for August 10-20, 2017
Spokesperson for the group Gene Turgeon says, “The Comedics see this as an opportunity to help new and established performers by assisting Fringe in creating this August festival, that will create paid opportunities for a variety of individuals and groups, which will provide a diversity of entertainment for the community.”
President, founding member and Artistic Director of Fringe North International Theatre Festival, Tova Arbus explained, “Fringes are urban festivals that bring significant economic and cultural benefits to the communities hosting them. Our commitment is to provide audiences with affordable arts and entertainment that will include children’s stages and a free family area, the return of buskers, and a variety of engaging performances. We hope to have significant representation from First Nations and Metis communities, as well as participants and audiences from the U.P.”
Comedics and ‘Friends’ for Fringe event will include some favourite songs and humour from previous shows as well as new material, such as an ode to Ivanka Trump and a special song for Justin Trudeau.
The Comedics is comprised of Gene Turgeon (vocals and lyrics), Bob Maloney (vocals, electric, acoustic guitar), John Pearson (vocals, acoustic guitar), Rob Askin (bass guitar), Denise Lacroix (vocals, acoustic guitar), Colette Chiarello (vocals), Fred Pelletier (percussion), Frank Greco (keyboard), Dave Simard (electric guitar), Mike Lacroix (sound), and Rob Rock (lights).
Founding member of the 10-day Fringe festival and General Manager, Peter Rowe commented, “At Fringe Festivals worldwide artists receive 100 per cent of the box office ticket sales, so Festivals rely on community support for funding. Fringe North is very grateful to the Comedics for their help in making this festival a success.”
Comedics and ‘Friends’ for Fringe is Friday June 2, 2017 at the Delta Hotel. Tickets at $25 are expected to sell out quickly and are available at the Fringe North International Theatre Festival office, 496 Queen St E.
