Yes, many were upset when Rick "Styles" White of Adamantium Productions announced that David Usher had postponed his Sault Ste. Marie appearance at Glow to attend the Junos.
But he's more than making up for this by giving us the honour of enjoying two of Canada's newest up-and-comers, the Marble Index and the Dunes.
About the Marble Index
Taking its name from Nico of the Velvet Underground's 1969 solo album, thus making a google search for the band rather challenging, the Marble Index came to be in Hamilton, ON in 2001.
With a Juno nomination, a song on Big Shiny Tunes 9 and a tour with the Pixies under their belts, the members of the Marble Index are now riding a wave of success following the release of Watch Your Candles, Watch Your Knives.
The Mescaleros producer, Scott Shields was instrumental in giving Watch an edgy the Killers-meets-the Artic Monkeys feel.
Elements of Clash-like punk were artfully and subtly incorporated for good measure.
About the Dunes
Following a semi-professional rugby career in Scotland, front man Kevin Pullen formed Markham-based the Dunes in 2003.
Built on an ideology of honesty, ambition and integrity, the band first released Socializing With Life in 2004.
It has since been re-released and is garnering acclaim from fans and critics alike, awarding the Dunes the opportunity to share the stage with such greats as the Trews, the Waking Eyes and Oliver Black.
As legendary Edge 102 radio personality Dean Blundell said, "The only good indie band in Toronto is the Dunes."
