Saultites should expect traffic delays downtown on Saturday — along with plenty of people — as the 100th annual Rotary Community Day Parade takes place.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. and will run along Queen Street East from Church to Gore.

Those looking for a sensory-friendly experience are asked to watch along the block between Bruce and Dennis streets, where parade participants won’t be honking, using sirens or air horns, and bright flashing lights will either be turned off or stay on. Other lights and music will continue as usual.

Street closures in the area will start at 9:30 a.m.

Queen Street East will be closed from Elizabeth Street to Church Street at that time so it can be used as a staging area. It’s expected to reopen at 1 p.m.

Lower Church Street will also close at 9:30 a.m., reopening to traffic at noon.

All vehicles parked on Queen Street East between Church Street and Andrew Street Saturday morning will need to be moved by 9:30 a.m. Any left parked along the parade route after that time will be towed.

Queen Street East from Church Street to Gore Street will be closed at 10:30 a.m. It's expected to reopen at 1 p.m., when parking will once again be allowed.

“Residents should expect traffic delays in the downtown core for the duration of the parade,” said Sault Ste. Marie Police Service in a news release.

“There will be an increased number of pedestrians in the area as well, and we urge motorists to be vigilant and drive with caution when making their way to the parade route.”
