The Superior Heights OnStage press release is included below.

Superior Heights OnStage will present its first-ever musical revue to celebrate the return to live theatre.

Thank You For The Music will have its premiere this June at the Community Theatre Centre. The show beings at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 16 and on Friday, June 17.

Admission is free for this event and seating will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Doors will open at 7 p.m., a half hour before the start time. All members of the community are welcome. A donation bin will be present at the door for those who wish to contribute to the school’s next production, coming February 2023.

This one-hour musical theatre experience is a tribute to past Superior Heights OnStage productions. 'Thank You For The Music' marks the 10th show put on by the company (which was founded in 2013). Classic songs and dances from shows such as 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Mamma Mia' will hit the main stage once again. Beloved characters and highlights of familiar scenes will be re-created and brought back to life as a callback to almost a decade of theatre education at Superior Heights. Others musicals the company has produced over the years, from which this revue will draw inspiration, include 'Fiddler on the Roof', 'The Sound of Music', 'Into the Woods', and 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory'.

The cast of actors, singers, and dancers are made up of Superior Heights students with a range of backgrounds. Some performers will be returning to the stage (with great anticipation) for the first time since the 2020 lockdown halted production of upcoming theatre events. Others will be making their debuts on stage, looking forward to this opportunity as their talent will finally get to reach a live audience.

In addition to the actors and singers, many students are pitching in behind the scenes to ensure the production is a success. From building the set and painting the decor, to creating props and organizing costumes, students are the primary force behind the production. From the Intermediate (7/8) program to the Secondary (9-12) program, including “victory lap” students, a range of ages and levels of experience make this a diverse group of creators. The students involved spend their time focusing on a variety of disciplines at Superior Heights, including drama, music, dance, cosmetology, visual art, construction, and more.

The production on June 16 and 17 represents the culmination of a course in theatre arts that Superior Heights students can elect to take, earning a credit for their stage time. The Algoma District School Board has seen many graduates of this advanced arts programming leap with confidence into their careers, in the arts and beyond, with a strong skill set honed by the teamwork, dedication, and creativity live theatrical work encourages.
