Stories Steeped in Stone performance lineup announced

After issuing a call for artists this past January, the Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site has announced the inaugural performance in it Stories Steeped in Stone arts series, states a release issued today.

Peter White and Joel Syrette will take the stage at the Heritage Discovery Theatre on March 25 at 7 p.m. to present Voices from the Gathering Place.

Other upcoming performances include those from Skye Smith, M.D. Dunn, Tim Murphy, Michael Burtch, Britta Wolfert and many others.

Stories Steeped in Stone is brought to you by the partnership of Friends of Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site and Theatre in Motion.

Funded by Canadian Heritage, this 13-show performance variety series expresses the originality and creativity of our local Algoma talent. Each 60-minute event will bring a spectacular return to live arts and culture to Sault Ste. Marie and the world. They will be offered in person and livestreamed on YouTube so everyone can experience what Stories Steeped in Stone has to offer.  

Artists from Algoma who find their inspiration in the stories, culture and landscape of this region were invited to submit letters of interest. Now the results are in: performances in music, theatre, storytelling, poetry, dance, performance art and heritage demonstrations ensure that while the theme may be "steeped in stone", no two shows will be alike. Also, each show will be hosted by a local emcee to give a unique flair to the performance. There will be something for everyone and you may find a few new interests along the way.

Our first story to take to the Heritage Discovery Theatre stage located at the Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site is Friday, March 25 at 7 p.m. will be Peter White and Joel Syrette. Their performance, titled 'Voices from the Gathering Place', will be an iconic kick-off to the series. Join us for this cultural adventure.

For those joining us in person, your ticket of $25 will provide two wine or beer or other beverage and heritage appetizers that are themed to the event. Seating is limited so get your ticket early.

“It's live, so anything can happen, and with the livestreaming out to audiences anywhere in the world, it feels reminiscent of live TV,” says Wendy Hamilton, project manager.

Thirteen shows are currently planned. The lineup of performers include, but are not limited to, Peter White, Joel Syrette, Cindy Ellen Crawford, Elizabeth Creith, Skye Smith, Rusty McCarthy, Maja Bannerman, M.D. Dunn, Tracie Louttit, Ellen Van Laar, Theresa Binda, Tim Murphy, George Houston, Kristin DeAmorim, Jarrett Mills, Michael Burtch, Annie King, Britta Wolfert and students of the Northern Arts Academy.
