NEWS RELEASE

SOO SINGS FOR KIDS

*************************
Since 2013 this annual event has raised $65,000 for local children’s charities. Each workplace team requires a vocal and dance mentor to help them learn a musical number to perform.

Everyday employees from local workplaces are transformed into stage performers with the support of their volunteer mentors. This year’s show will take place May 10 at the Community theatre. Another SOLD OUT show is expected!

This year several mentors who have volunteered for the past 2-4 shows will be moving on. We have been fortunate to have such committed and talented mentors every year.

Anthony Aceti shared his mentoring experience, "I thoroughly enjoyed the two years I spent mentoring Soo Sings groups. Working closely my first year with SAH personnel and, last year, with Women in Crisis staff led to a lot of laughs, new friendships, and unique learning opportunities. It was a thrill helping to prepare a song and dance routine with Justice Stephany, dance mentor extraordinaire. The work we did was meaningful, full of joy and made an impact on the community. The event is valuable for our city and the process and effort that went into it was unforgettable."

Kaitlin Pelletier and Christina Tucci have been co-dance mentors since the 1st year (2013).

“It has been an extremely rewarding experience ,and we are honoured to be a part of Soo Sings. We have watched a group of hilarious, kind, motivated and determined adults transform from hesitant "non-singers" and "non-dancers" into confident and talented performers! As a mentor, you are so genuinely proud and excited for ALL of the other teams involved. Regardless of who is awarded that first place title, the entire community wins from the event. The amount of money that has been raised for local essential agencies and services is amazing, and it makes us feel proud to know that we have had a role in being a part of its success. “

This volunteer opportunity will involve approximately 16 hours of your time over 5 months, and will bring glee to our community.

The experience of all our mentors varies, and there are no specific criteria required. If you can teach a group of people to sing in harmony OR choreograph a musical number… we need you!

Do not miss your chance to make a difference for both the children’s charities and the performers. Visit www.soosingsforkids.com for more information.
