Sault High student Kati Doty eyes Self-Portrait as a Frog, one of nine pieces in pastel presented by Lake Superior State University adjunct art professor Heidi Finley.

Finley's work is in the Shouldice Library gallery through September.

"Artist’s chalk or pastel is a versatile medium," she says. "Pastel is dry and capable of ultra-smooth blending. Used to its fullest capacity, it produces drawings so rich and intense they resemble oil paintings."

Finley will be teaching a college course in pastel this spring.

The library is open evenings until 11 p.m.; 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
