Sault Theatre Workshop says it is cancelling an upcoming production following the unexpected passing of a cast member.

Anyone who has already purchased tickets will receive a full refund, the theatre group said.

The longtime local theatre group and Shot in the Dark productions were set to stage Stephen Sondheim’s musical thriller Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street from Oct. 29 to Nov. 3 as the season opener.

"Due to the unexpected and tragic passing of a cast member, we will not be continuing with our fall production of Sweeney Todd," Sault Theatre Workshop said in a statement posted in its website.

"Full refunds for tickets already purchased are available at the Station Mall Box Office.

"Sault Theatre Workshop will make an announcement in the coming weeks about their current season. Shot in the Dark will be taking a hiatus from theatre-making for the time being.

"The cast and crew wish to extend thoughts and support to the family during this difficult time. With much love to our friend, we thank you for your understanding."
