Come together and welcome Santa Claus to Sault Ste. Marie with the annual Rotary Santa Claus Parade - but static. The parade will be presented by IDA Sweet Greetings and will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20 starting at 5 p.m.

“This year, it’s going to be a static parade,” said parade marshal David Marshall. “We’ve consulted with Algoma Public Health and we agreed that our plan is safe and reasonable given the upswing of cases. Vehicles will be allowed to drive past the floats to view them.”

Floats will be parked along the south lane of Queen Street East from Churchill Boulevard to Church Street. To drive through the parade, enter the staging area from the intersection at Churchill Boulevard and proceed going west. Volunteers will be handing out gift bags to children as well.

“This procedure is something new for us. We still want to maintain the tradition and give a little gift back to the public of Sault Ste. Marie for all the support that they give Rotary,” Marshall said.

“I spoke with Santa Claus and he’s happy that we’re doing this. He’s making a special trip because he loves Sault Ste. Marie,” he said.

“We hope that people come out and participate. Hopefully, it will be a good time for the kids and a great kickoff to the Christmas season,” Marshall said.

Whether or not you attend the reverse parade, make sure to drive slowly and carefully on Saturday evening.
