Rudy Sarzo closed the Bell Border Jam (photos)

A few expletives escaped the lips of local musicians Mark Kuntsi and Jay Case Sunday evening during Bell Border Jam's final performance as Blue Oyster Cult (BOC) founding member Buck Dharma introduced the bass player as "the world famous Rudy Sarzo.
A few expletives escaped the lips of local musicians Mark Kuntsi and Jay Case Sunday evening during Bell Border Jam's final performance as Blue Oyster Cult (BOC) founding member Buck Dharma introduced the bass player as "the world famous Rudy Sarzo."

"No wonder he sounds so good," laughed Case.

According to the official BOC website, the former bass player for Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot, Whitesnake and Dio joined the band in mid-2007.

BOC delivered a flawless and dynamic closing set at Runway Park that included Burnin' For You, Astronomy, Buck's Boogie, Godzilla, Golden Age of Leather and Shooting Shark which Patti Smith cowrote with original member Allen Lanier.

Of course they saved (Don't Fear) The Reaper for the last tune of the set after Dharma repeatedly told the audience, "Don't worry. We'll get to that one."

Day 3 of the Bell Border Jam Festival kicked off at noon with music all day from Brass Tax, Startlefish, Big Suit, The Priddle Concern, Bad Side, Healey's House Band and Seven Mary Three.

Despite lower than expected attendance, the coordinators and volunteers deserve serious kudos for bringing such a well organized and ambitious event to Sault Ste. Marie.

Sponsored by Bell Aliant, the Bell Border Jam is a Sault Area Hospital Foundation fundraiser.
