Really? A dance-a-thon?

"People don't do events anymore. They do silly things like watch TV and stuff," says local party monster, Robbie Adamson. The perfect reason to hold a Dance-A-Thon, I'd say.

"People don't do events anymore. They do silly things like watch TV and stuff," says local party monster, Robbie Adamson.

The perfect reason to hold a Dance-A-Thon, I'd say.

The evening of Saturday October 7 will see the second annual "Soo Central Celebrities" and the "Northshore Superior All-Stars" all-nite charity Good Times Dance-A-Thon.

Phew!

That was mouthful, wasn't it?

To be held at the Oddfellows Hall on Dennis Street, the event is set to kick off at 10 p.m. and tickets are $10 with one dollar from each donated back to the Oddfellows.

Adamson first began hosting parties when he bought a house back in 1997, and in the seven years he lived there, he approximates 28 events took place there.

With each passing year, the parties became bigger, better and more infamous, reaching upwards of 200 attendees.

Not once was there a noise complaint, an occasion of theft, a fight or the need for the authorities to be called for any reason.

After the sale of his abode, Adamson had to find alternative locations for his shing-dings, opening the door to endless possibilities.

Just a glance at Adamson or anything he owns will tell you that he has a passion for the past and anything connected with it.

This is why he hosts Dance-A-Thons.

And wears horn-rimmed glasses.

And drives a '69 Chevy Belair.

"I mostly just think it's a gas", says Adamson.

"I like to dance, I like to host parties, I like retro stuff and I like funny things."

But there are many things that set his parties above your average rave.

First of all, each contestant is given a number upon arrival.

Then there's live musical chairs with music provided by the Economy Studz, the "Good-Times Portrait Studio" which he claims is history in the making, trophies and ribbons, sparklers, really cool visuals and lights, DJs and dance cards.

Dance cards?

Adamson says they encourage his guests to create their special keepsake of the event and with each full card, he presents the lady with a sparkler and first-place ribbon.

Oh yes, there is also a referee, played by Mr. Adamson himself, complete with striped shirt, roller skates and bull horn.

Plan to stay late as the awards ceremony happens at 5 a.m. when the trophies are handed out to those with endurance, enthusiasm and spirit.

"Mr. Adamson, you can party here anytime", said Statton Orchard of the Oddfellows after the success of last year's event, as 130 people attended with no advertising whatsoever.

What's next?
