Zip.ca predicts the next big DVD hits: online video rental service publishes its hit predictor

OTTAWA, ONTARIO — Zip.ca, Canada's largest online video rental service, has published the latest "Hit Predictor List" of its top 10 soon-to-be-released titles.

Zip.ca lists are drawn directly from requests made by over 35,000 members from across Canada.

The Zip.ca "Hit Predictor List" is based on live consumer data — actual selections that members have added to their ZipList, a personalized wish list of DVDs they plan to watch.

Besides selecting videos from a catalogue of more than 53,000 titles, Zip.ca members can ZipList titles for movies that are still in theatres.

This pre-selection process gives Zip.ca a unique perspective into what films are likely to have a longer life in the large after-theatre market.

With over 320,000 free community members using the site, 7 million ZipList requests for already-released DVD titles, and 2.1 million title ratings by members, Zip.ca has a treasure-trove of information about Canadians' home-viewing habits and preferences.

Zip.ca has further opened its site so that anyone can take advantage of the rich entertainment content it provides, including movie information, ratings, reviews and entertainment information.

Users can also share their opinions by writing and rating movies.
