Refurbished pianos, brightly painted by Algoma District School Board students at White Pines Collegiate as a two-day art project in March, were placed at various locations in the Sault’s downtown core Tuesday morning.
Available for any member of the public to play and enjoy, the pianos are located on Queen Street East near City Meat Market, Case's Music and Soo Blaster, at the corner of Albert and Gore Streets, the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library (James L. McIntyre Centennial Library) and near the Civic Centre.
The piano project was the result of a collaboration between White Pines art students, FutureSSM, Kerri Braido, Hollie Filice and Sarah Constable with the hope of engaging the community and breaking down social walls and barriers, inspired by the use of pianos for the same reason in other communities.
