New Bushplane children’s book lands just in time for big party

'Bushplanes and a Train' — a sequel to 'Bailey the Bushplane' — coincides with the 100th anniversary celebration of the Ontario Provincial Air Service

Bailey the Beaver, Emily Seebee and Olly the Otter are back for another round of adventures with the release of Bushplanes and a Train, a sequel to the first book Bailey the Bushplane.

Bushplanes and a Train, written by Richard Jones and illustrated by Amy Williams, introduces newcomers Bella the Helicopter, Brooke the Beech and Tristan the Train.

In this new book, the Bushplane friends work together to find a missing guest of honour and bring him back to a celebratory party in Smoky River. The book is aimed at children aged 10 and under.

Along with the release of this second book, August saw the sale of the first Bushplane book reach 1,000 about a year after its release.

The Bushplanes and a Train story also pays tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Ontario Provincial Air Service, which will be highlighted with a September celebration in Sault Ste. Marie. As part of the festivities, a live interactive reading of Bushplanes and a Train will take place on Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. — during Bushplane Days in the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre.

Kids will have the chance to take part by holding up pictures of the bushplanes and bringing the story to life.

The two books are available for purchase in Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding areas, including: The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, Agawa Canyon Tour Train, Coles, Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site, Hogan’s Homestead, Ontario Travel Information Centre, Miss Marie Sault Lock Tours, Pancake Bay Provincial Park, Sault Ste. Marie Duty Free, Sault Ste. Marie Museum and Velorution.
