On a night when the local windchill factor neared -40 degrees Celsius, wine enthusiasts gathered at the Machine Shop to warm up with lovely samples of vino during the second annual Bon Soo Night of Ice and Fire wine tasting event.

Bon Soo Manager Kerrie De Poli told SooToday that event organizers were extremely pleased with the evening's attendance and venue.

She was also very happy to be indoors.

Although it's only in its second year, A Night of Ice and Fire has quickly grown in popularity and has become the carnival's premiere adult event.

"We say that Bon Soo is for you, and we do sincerely mean that," De Poli said. "This is an adult event for people who are interested in experiencing wine and having a nice social time. This brings in that aspect to the carnival. We're endeavouring to both be a supporter of the arts community and to establish some adult-themed nights."

As the 2015 Bon Soo Winter Carnival prepares to wind down, De Poli said the organizing committee was thrilled that the festival was able to remain in the downtown area thanks to the new partnership with the Mill Market.

"This is the first time in our history that we've had a private partner and it's been wonderful," she told us. "There was nothing [Mill Market] wouldn't do to accommodate the partnership. It's been a fantastic experience."

Unfortunately, Sunday's scheduled polar bear swim was cancelled due to frigid temperatures.

However, the Tim Hortons Winter Playground located at the Mill Market remains open today with bum slides, dog sled and snow machine rides, and alpacas.
