October 30, 2006 - On Sunday November 5, 2006 the Valiants Memorial will be unveiled in Ottawa.

The memorial is a national commemoration honouring 14 courageous individuals for their heroism during the five major periods of conflict and resolution that marked Canada's road from a 17th-century European colony to a 20th-century North-American nation.

This commemoration was proposed by the Valiants Foundation, which also selected the 14 men and women.

The memorial represents the 14 valiant persons in bronze with combinations of full figures and busts, and will be placed in close vicinity to the National War Memorial, in the heart of Canada's capital.

These figures will be complemented by a large bronze wall embossed with Virgil's timeless phrase NULLA DIES UMQUAM MEMORI VOS EXIMET AEVO (No day shall ever blot you from the memory of time).

These sculptures will be unveiled by The Right Honourable Governor General Michaëlle Jean.

The sculptor who executed all fourteen portraits is Marlene Hilton Moore.

Moore has a long standing relationship with the Art Gallery of Algoma.

She has been the subject of two solo exhibitions and most recently "The Portrait Series" from the collection of the Art Gallery of Algoma

She conducted the first of the Art Gallery of Algoma's Artreach classes.

Artreach is a specialized certificate programme designed to expose local area high school students to the world of the professional artist through a series of hands-on workshops.

The Hillsdale Ontario native is represented in the collection of the Art Gallery of Algoma by large scale drawings, bronze and steel sculptures and the paintings comprising "The Portrait Series".

Michael Burtch will represent the Art Gallery of Algoma at the ceremony.
