Mark Primavera, a member of the Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie and District has received an award for his website work with the local not-for profit association.

Board member Mark Primavera revamped the Arts Council website on a volunteer basis. His efforts were entered into a international competition with the Award for Publication Excellence (APEX) association based in Virgina, USA.

In an announcement Friday July 7, APEX Awards says it had close to 5,000 entries and that “competition was exceptionally intense.”

“Overall, this year’s entries displayed an extraordinary level of quality. The APEX judges saw only the most promising publications that professional communicators could enter. They had the truly difficult task of selecting the award-winning entries.”

Mark Primavera, who works at Great Lakes Forestry Centre as a graphic designer, has been a member of the Arts Council board for two years and took over the redesign and rebuild of the website last fall. He also owns and operates his own photography business and is also a member of the Arts Council in that regard.

“I made an effort to make the site meet members and non-members needs by easily letting visitors see artist’s profiles, and arts events information. Helping organizations and individuals promote their events is a fundamental reason for the Arts Council and the website is a key tool.

“We also just added a subscription feature whereby visitors can receive regular, automatic updates of events and activities. Also, anyone can easily and quickly join the Arts Council online.”

Arts Council President Chris Rous said the award was richly-deserved. “Mark has put hundreds of hours of time in Arts Council efforts, particularly the website and our publication ARTiculation which is second to none in Ontario. This APEX Award acknowledges not only his skill but his dedication and commitment to the arts community.”

“As one of the longest-established Arts Council in the province, we have been leading the way in many arts initiatives for a long time and Mark’s award is one more demonstration of that. All Arts Council members and supporters should be proud of this recognition that reflects not only well on Mark but on the Arts Council generally.”

The panel of judges included John De Lellis, Concepts Editor & Publisher, Carolyn Mulford, Senior Evaluator for the Publication Evaluation Program and Senior Writer & Editor of Writing That Works, Christine Turner, Contributing Editor of Writing That Works: The Business Communications Report, and Bill Londino, Consulting Editor of Writing That Works.
