LSSU MACBETH SET WILL BE MOST IMPRESSIVE TO DATE
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The final nails are being hammered and lights are being focused as the set nears completion for the Lake State Theatre Company production of Macbeth March 29-31 and April 1.
David Edmondson, in conjunction with the play's director, Prof. Gary L. Balfantz, has designed the set and lights for the production, providing both realistic and metaphoric elements in its design.
"We have tried to create a set that is versatile and at the same time very specific to allow the numerous environments of the play to be distinct and fully realized," said Balfantz.
Edmondson, who will be offering a stagecraft class in fall 2007, is a veteran of stage sets who formerly worked in Branson, Missouri's Grand Palace Theater and Mackinaw City's Center Stage.
"It has been nice to share what I know about set and lighting design with our students and volunteers," he said.
"I hope this has been a learning experience for those who have been involved as we constructed a castle facade and other set elements. It is my hope that we continue to grow and develop as a theater program in order to offer exciting and aesthetically challenging productions to our community."
Several cast members, staff, and volunteers have assisted with the construction of the set. Additional volunteers are always welcome.
Performances of Macbeth are scheduled for 7 p.m., March 29-31, and 2 p.m. on April 1 in the LSSU Arts Center auditorium.
Tickets, $7 for students and $15 for the general public, are available at the Norris Center box office at 906-635-2602 or online at www.lssu.edu/artscenter.
Student tickets are not available online. Tickets will also be available at the door.
