Marconi Italian Festival July 12, 2015 featuring Armando Pulente

Many readers will remember Sault Ste. Marie’s very own Little Italy.

It ran from West St. to Gore St. and included the famous James Street lined with its many Italian shops and delicatessens.

It has seen many changes over the last 100 years, but the Marconi Society Club continues to feature our community’s Italian cultural traditions through famous signature foods and fun, social events.

The Marconi Club is especially excited this year to feature local legendary vocalist Armando Pulente and musical guests Frankly Speaking on Sunday, July 12.

At 66, with curly hair and a fit body, Armando Pulente remains as dedicated today as he did in 1970 when he performed countless concerts and shows.

He is heralded by Northern Ontario Italian communities for his gifted musical abilities and singing of traditional Italian songs.

Locally, Armando’s popularity was epic along with his brothers and their musical group The Pulente Brothers entertaining and adored by the Italian community with favourites songs Rose Rosse and Calabrisella Mia.

You can hear Armando’s soulful voice on his most recent CD titled Mia Madre Mi Diceva (My Mother Told Me) featuring five original songs available on iTunes.

Through the power of YouTube, an early composition by Armando titled Blow'n My Mind (1976) has received over 4,000 hits and is being viewed and heard in many parts of the world.

Armando’s new music is also reaching listeners on Italian radio networks in major cities including Toronto, Cleveland and Vancouver.

Armando recently performed at a packed house in the Greater Sudbury area where he received overwhelming praise for his show after 30 intervening years.

He will be featured later this summer on the Main Stage for two nights at Thunder Bay’s Festa Italiana 2015.

Music is a significant mainstay of Italian culture and through Armando’s artistic passion he continues to connect with audiences wherever he goes.

Armando’s relationship with The Marconi Club has spanned over five decades and he is very excited to be entertaining at the Sault’s Italian Festival this coming weekend.

The event will begin early afternoon at 1 p.m. on the Marconi Grounds and porchetta, veal panini, sausage, and pizza will be served along with children activities including face fainting, train rides, magician, balloons and games.

The evening ravioli dinner runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will be followed by the musical concert.

The Marconi’s Chief Manager Domenic Carota welcomes and encourages the general public to attend and enjoy the day and evening festivities as it continues to be a significant cultural landmark of the city’s past, present and future.
