Three week-long workshops hosted in Sault Ste. Marie starting Jan. 30

Northern Ontario residents interested in a career in film production are invited to register for upcoming workshops hosted by Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) and REEL CANADA.

Workshops are scheduled in Sault Ste. Marie from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following dates:
    •    Art Department - Jan. 30 - Feb. 3, 2023
    •    Production Assistant (PA) - Feb. 6 - 10, 2023
    •    Grip/Electric Trainee - Feb. 13 - 17, 2023

Applications for the Northern Ontario Film Crew Training program will be accepted until Jan. 30 and may be submitted online.

“The goal is to get people comfortable enough that they can walk on to a film set and feel confident in doing some of the roles that are needed to create a film or television show,” said Devin Mahesh, CION’s film sector development officer, in a news release.

SUDBURY – Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) and REEL CANADA have announced the Northern Ontario Film Crew Training Sessions – a program providing free training to individuals residing in northern Ontario who want to start a career in film and television production. The program begins on Jan. 30, 2023, and consists of three weeks of workshops in Sault Ste. Marie, as well as in Greater Sudbury and North Bay.

“The goal is to get people comfortable enough that they can walk on to a film set and feel confident in doing some of the roles that are needed to create a film or television show,” said Devin Mahesh, CION’s film sector development officer.

CION and REEL CANADA have engaged partners William F. White International Inc., who will provide required film and television equipment to facilitate the training sessions, as well as DGC Ontario, IATSE 634, IATSE 411, and IATSE 667, who will administer the training sessions both virtually and in-person.

Those interested in starting a career in northern Ontario’s film and television production industry can apply for the Northern Ontario Film Crew Training program here with applications being accepted from now until the start of training. Training occurs on Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following dates for Sault Ste. Marie:
    •    Art Department - Jan. 30 - Feb. 3, 2023
    •    Production Assistant (PA) - Feb. 6 - 10, 2023
    •    Grip/Electric Trainee - Feb. 13 - 17, 2023

Production Facilities in Northern Ontario to Host Film Crew Training Sessions

Participants of CION’s Northern Ontario Film Crew Training Sessions program will engage with course curriculum in production offices and studio spaces thanks to the generous support from 180 Sisterhood Productions.

180 Sisterhood Productions is a content creation company located in Sault Ste. Marie that has completed principal photography on five feature films and multiple short-format projects since 2020. 180 Sisterhood Productions has recently built-up their production facility to include a gear rental hub and office space.
