Indigenous fashion struts into the Machine Shop this spring

On April 12, Woodland Fashion Collective presents Woodland Fashion: Runway at the Rapids at the Machine Shop.

The event is "a high-fashion Indigenous runway showcase celebrating contemporary and traditional Indigenous design," explains a notice issued by Woodland Fashion Collective.

"Featuring top designers from across Turtle Island, the event highlights cultural expression, innovation, and storytelling through fashion."

Participating designers include:
    •    Lesley Hampton – 2021 Vogue’s #1 Canadian Designer, known for Indigenous representation and size inclusivity.
    •    Siobhan Marks – Blending traditional and contemporary Indigenous garments with elegance.
    •    Ocean Kiana – Founder and creative director of Woodland Fashion Collective, fusing Indigenous artistry with modern couture.
    •    Marlene Syrette – Known for intricate ribbon work and cultural storytelling through fashion.
    •    Dallas Abitong – Bold and modern Indigenous fashion, highlighting strength and identity.
    •    Logan Perreault – Incorporating traditional elements into bold, meaningful designs rooted in Anishinaabe culture.  

The evening also includes a cocktail hour, vendor market, live music and performances, and an after party.

Doors for Runway at the Rapids open at 5:30 p.m. with the fashion show kicking off at 7 p.m.
