HILVERSUM, The Netherlands - Last night in Amsterdam, Radio Netherlands Worldwide presented the awards of the global competition "Inspired by Rembrandt".

The winners are Reginaldo Goncalves of Ghana and Alberto Iglesias Lorenzo of Spain, who may call themselves the "successors" of Rembrandt van Rijn.

The award-winning art and the nominated pieces are on display as of today at a special exhibit at Amsterdam City Hall.

Reginaldo Goncalves won the award of the expert jury panel and Alberto Iglesias Lorenzo received the award of the public jury.

Both winners will receive a special workshop of several months at the renowned Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.

In a statement about jury award winner Reginaldo Goncalves, the jury said: "The staging and lighting in his way of photographing immediately remind you of Rembrandt, even though there is definitely no imitating or copying going on."

"The art has an entirely individual character and evokes a captivating atmosphere," the jury said.
