In pizza we crust: Locals sample varieties of Sault's most popular dish

First-ever Pizza Fest has brought hundreds to the Downtown Plaza this afternoon; four pizza makers are offering up $1 slices until 5 p.m.

The competition is alive at the Downtown Plaza this afternoon as four local pizza makers are vying for the title of best pie.

Running from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the first annual city-organized "Pizza Fest" has invited hundreds of Saultites to enjoy a wide variety of slices, then vote on the one they love the most.

While the lineups have been lengthy at times, there were hardly any complaints as customers were treated to regular-sized slices for just a buck each.

Participating restaurants included Minelli's at the Marconi Club, Pizza Pizza, Ricardo's Big Slice Pizza, and Uncle Gino's Café & Ristorante.

Live performances were provided by Rob Speers and Matthew James.

Prior to Pizza Fest, SooToday produced an entertaining video that asked pizza makers across the city to pick their favourite pie — other than their own.

This story will be updated when winners are announced for Best Pepperoni and Cheese Pizza and Best Specialty Pizza.
