Stock the pantry, bar the doors and windows, and arm yourself against the coming zombie apocalypse!

The 7th annual Soo Zombie Walk will take over downtown Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday, October 24.

Events kick off at 4 p.m. at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre with food and refreshments, zombie games and activities, face painting, a zombie photo booth, contests, vendors and live entertainment.

Performers include Greg Callaghan, Aggressive Acoustic and Sykotyk Rampage.

Event coordinator Janna Goulay-Pond told Sootoday that a few new things are in store for this year’s event, including a "zombie passport" that attendees can get stamped at six activity stations located at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre.

Each completed passport is entered into a draw for a chance at a great prize.

Prizes will also be awarded for best zombie costumes and Entomica is joining the festivities with their creepy crawly critters.

“The Walk is so popular because people of all ages love dressing up for Halloween and there's something especially fun about dressing up as a zombie - all the makeup, fake blood, groans and lurching. It's fun!” Goulay-Pond told us. “Shows like The Walking Dead keep people interested in zombies. With special effects always improving, its fun to see how zombies in the media are evolving!”

Her simple secret for the perfect zombie costume is lots of messy fake blood and dirty torn clothing.

“Zombies should never look clean! Most importantly, stay in character and don't be afraid to groan,” she said.

After things get rolling Saturday at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre Saturday, the zombie horde will venture into the streets at 6 p.m. as the valiant troops of resistance fighters battle to keep the city safe.

Adults are admitted to the Zombie walk for $3 plus a non-perishable food item, children aged 10 and under can join the fun for a donation of a non-perishable food item.

All food donations go to support the Soup Kitchen Community Centre.

Prizes will be awarded at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre following the walk at 7 p.m.

For those zombies aged 19 and older, there will a post-walk party at Coch’s Corner starting at 9 p.m.
