GALLERY: Local church celebrates new program with community barbecue

Members of Cornerstone Seventh-day Adventist Church hosted a free community barbecue in their parking lot on Sunday to spread awareness about a new program they've recently launched.

Called "Cornerstone Cares," the initiative aims to make quality children's clothing (youth sizes 2-16) more accessible for low-income families in Sault Ste. Marie.

Located next to the McNabb Street church, Cornerstone Cares is open for shopping every Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. None of the clothing items are priced above $5. 

"Our goal is to inspire others to get involved and contribute to the well-being of our community, even if it is through clothing donation," said spokesperson Spencer Watts.

Donations are accepted at Cornerstone Cares on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This afternoon's event included a barbecue, as well as pony rides, face painting, a dunk tank and corn hole games, among other activities.

Sault Fire Services also stopped by with one of their firetrucks for tours and demonstrations.
