Ever been upstaged by your hair? Pat Gladu has (photos)

It's difficult to say exactly what stole the show during last night's Dancing With the Sault Stars at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre. Possibly the fact that local dancer Jen Mote was there.
It's difficult to say exactly what stole the show during last night's Dancing With the Sault Stars at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre.

Possibly the fact that local dancer Jen Mote was there.

The same Jen Mote who impressed judges on So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

It may have been Carrie Apostle's legs.

Or Matthew Fata's abs.

Perhaps Katie Campbell's bodacious ta-tas.

Then there's Tim Murphy's red sequined evening gown.

I believe it was Pat Gladu's hair.

"If I can't dance right, then at least I'm going to look good," he said when asked if he was comfortable about his huge locks drawing all the attention.

He and his wife Sherie were one of many local celebrity couples who volunteered to take part in the Algoma Residential Community Hospice fundraiser.

Under the tutelage of choreographer Jason Marinelli, the Gladus rehearsed their funky routine for two months in order to prepare for the big night.

"He first met with us to chat a bit, then designed our dance number around our ability and personality," said Pat. "He was really nice and a great instructor."

It was the very first time either Gladu had danced on stage in front of an audience.

As was the case for many of the local celebrities, including Lido and Lois Della Savia, Byron Bobbie, Mike Prentice and Edie Suriano.

Studio Dance Arts, Soo Dance Unlimited, Sherry Walsh Academy of Dance Arts, Davey Dance and CASS High School all represented the local professional dance sector.

Adding a bit cultural diversity were the Sault Ste. Marie Scottish Country Dancers, the Marichka Ukrainian Dancers, Katie Campbell's bellydance and the First Nations Dancers.

Hopefully this spectacular showcase becomes an annual event.

Pat Gladu says he'd definitely take part again, but would like more practise.

He doesn't want to be upstaged by his hair again.
