Come celebrate National Canadian Film Day with your Public Library! On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, we would love for you to join us to celebrate the power of Canadian film.

What is a better than one Canadian Film to celebrate National Canadian Film Day 2025? How about TWO! That is right, Sault Ste. Marie Public Library will be serving up a double feature to celebrate the occasion. We will be hosting an afternoon matinee of the documentary 'Singing Back the Buffalo', directed by Tasha Hubbard of the Cree Nation. The evening screening will be the mockumentary 'Hey, Viktor!,' directed by Cody Lightning, also from the Cree Nation.

Singing Back the Buffalo is an epic and inspiring documentary that not only offers a new perspective on our connection to the land, but it shows us what’s possible when we come together. Singing Back the Buffalo is an essential call to take notice – and take action.

Hey, Viktor! is a refreshing and occasionally raunchy comedy. This charming underdog story is a great movie about how to make a terrible one. Twenty-five years after starring in the hit 90s film 'Smoke Signals', Cody Lightning directs and stars in this uproarious mockumentary about a fictionalized version of himself attempting to make a sequel.

Join us prior to the event to fill out a ballot for a chance to win a themed prize basket!

The films will be streamed in-person at the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library, on April 16, 2025. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively. For more information or to reserve your ticket, please call 705-759-5236 or visit the links below.
