Releases exclusive EP available on iTunes August 14
Toronto In honour of Elvis Aaron Presley, international, Grammy award winning recording artist, Alannah Myles has rerecorded and is releasing a brand new updated version of her original Billboard #1 hit Black Velvet the song that introduced a whole new generation to a soulful country groove depicting metaphors that told a story of the King when it topped the charts worldwide in 1990.
Black velvet and that little boy smile / Black velvet with that slow southern style / A new religion that’ll bring you to your knees / Black velvet... if you please...
An inspiration to all recording artists around the world, Alannah Myles has hit the highest highs winning a Grammy award and selling multimillions of records, and hit the lowest of lows – left uncompensated for the success of her sales.
Through the highs and the lows, Alannah has met every challenge an artist can be hit with, facing them head on with the tenacity of one of the most determined artists in the history of the music business.
Her first self titled album (1989) produced four Top 40 hits, Love Is, Lover of Mine, and Still Got This Thing, as well as the number one international smash, Black Velvet, which she won a Grammy award for best female rock performance, along with several Juno Awards, a Diamond award for sales in excess of 1,000,000 in Canada the only artist who still retains this status f or her debut record.
ASCAP awarded the song a 'Millionaire Award' in 2005 for over 4 million radio plays of Black Velvet in the USA.
SOCAN awarded the songs, Black Velvet and Lover Of Mine each with an award for over 100,000 plays in Canada in 2005 with her #1 hit song Instead Of A Kiss to follow.
Alannah's rerecorded Black Velvet 2007 along with two other songs from the album – Only Wings, and Faces in the Crowd are being released on August 14, 2007 as a digital EP exclusively on iTunes in tribute to Elvis on the 30th anniversary of his passing, on August 16,1977.
