Buffy Sainte-Marie and more coming to the Sault this October

The Algoma Arts Festival Association is pleased to announce our Algoma Fall Festival 2016 program celebrating our 44th year.

Buffy Sainte-Marie, a Canadian power house and one of the most spellbinding artists of our time will perform in the Sault on October 4 combining grace and a high energy stage presence with cerebral songs that tell powerful stories.

Joining Buffy during the Festival are Juno Award Winners, Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida with their Moon vs. Sun Tour.

The much anticipated Novel Dinner will feature host Jesse Brown – disruptive journalist; Will Ferguson – humorist, novelist and travel writer; Dr. Vincent Lam – physician and award winning author; and Miriam Toews – highly acclaimed writer and actress.

Our 2016 Group of Seven Event will showcase co-founder, Lawren Harris in the Northern Ontario premier of the documentary Lawren Harris – Where the Universe Sings! created by White Pine Pictures.

Newly elected president, Rosetta Sicoli, who is excited to be at the helm of the Algoma Arts Festival Association stated, “The 2016 season of the Festival will be the best yet for showcasing Canadian arts in Sault Ste. Marie!”

Beginning on October 1, Saultites and visitors will see a variety of musical acts, entertainment and inspiration including Canada's highly acclaimed female roots and blues artist – Rita Chiarelli and her band Sweet Loretta; and Whitehorse, a Canadian folk rock band composed of husband-and-wife duo Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland.

In celebration of the amazing fall season the Celtic Colours in Algoma weekend will close the festival with Next Generation Leahy – six accomplished multi-instrumentalist children aged 5 - 12, accompanied by their parents Jennifer and Doug Leahy and Còig, an ensemble of East Coast musicians and one of Atlantic Canada's premiere traditional groups.

“As the Festival grows and continues to reach beyond the realms of what’s possible by presenting the likes of Buffy Sainte-Marie,” says Executive Director, Donna Hilsinger, “the Algoma Arts Festival Association ensures our community has the opportunity to experience the best of Canadian Arts."
