Black Dirt Road Helps Usher in New Era at the Nicolet

The Nicolet Tavern has a long history in Sault Ste. Marie as a place to see live music. At one time, this local establishment was famous for bringing in the best local and national country and western performers.

Well, times have changed and so has the Nicolet. No longer an exclusively country and western club, the Nicolet's owner Judy Gwant now books great bands with a variety of musical styles. One such act, Black Dirt Road (often referred to as BDR), has developed a special bond with the local tavern.

BDR began playing the tavern about a year and a half ago when the club was looking to change its format and has been very successful in bridging the gap between the clientele that the tavern used to attract and a younger, new generation of tavern-goers.

Tavern-owner Gwant has been pleased with BDR's hard-earned success at the Nicolet. Band member Alex Trecroce attributes this success to the group's ability to pull off a "selection of songs that all ages can relate to." By performing country classics by artists like Johnny Cash, as well as more contemporary rock songs by artists like Lenny Kravitz, BDR has successfully created a true cross-over audience.

Black Dirt Road is made up of Alex Trecroce, Chris Aslett, Ron Mclean, and Frank Cugglieta.

BDR will be performing at the Nicolet on Friday and Saturday, January 28th & 29th. The Nicolet Tavern is located at 304 Albert Street West.
